Hook Model

The Hook Model is a framework for creating products that encourage user habits through a cycle of triggers, actions, rewards, and investments.

Components

A cycle links trigger, action, variable reward and investment. The investment stage stores preferences or work that can improve the next visit, linking back to the trigger. The center asks what value grows with use.
Conceptual Hook cycle emphasizing the role of stored value. The model describes a design mechanism; it does not establish that a particular product causes habits or improves retention. Original diagram based on Nir Eyal, The Hooked Model: How to Manufacture Desire in 4 Steps.

Usage

Used for creating products that encourage user habits and increase engagement. Helps design features that naturally draw users back to the product.
